Match Reports

11 Boys v Twin City won 8 – 1
It was a good day for the U11 s Hotspurs with an easy win . Great work by our midfielders allowed Nathan to get us on the scoreboard early and the goals kept coming !
Our defenders are starting to work well together and both Dustin and Tyreece are learning to hold their positions and are gaining confidence. All their hard work at training has paid off.
Our attacking game was the highlight of Sunday’s match – Ryan scored 3 goals off his lucky left and Louis hustled and scored his first goal for the year !!
But what about the Play of the Day ? Lenny passed to Daisy , with a cross to Mitch who somehow freakily found Aydan near the goals who did a Timmy Cahill header and is now contender for goal of the year !!! Aydan also finished the match with 3 goals .
Special mention to the opposition who tried hard all day and never gave up and were rewarded with a goal early in the second half.
Aydan (3) Ryan (3) Nathan (1) Louis (1)
Let’s train hard this week. Go Spurs!

12 boys v TCW won 2 – 0

13 Girls v Diamonds lost 1 – 8
Firstly, a huge thank you to all the parents for their understanding in the time change mix up!!
The girls battled on and were full of enthusiasm for some their first game of soccer.
It was extremely hot out on the field and the girls really felt the heat. We played well together as a team and will keep getting stronger as the season goes on. Keep working together girls, it is fantastic to the the development of girls in our club. A warm welcome to the many new families who also have
joined the club, look forward to a great season together.

16 Boys v Twin City drew 1 – 1
A very physical game that tested our depleted team. Big thanks to Will Haberfield and Tynecia Castles for filling in. We wish Jacob Godfrey and Toby Lewis speedy recoveries with their broken bones.

Thirds v Twin City won 4 – 3
Another impressive effort from the Thirds on Sunday. Twin City managed to score a goal within about the first minute of play but Spurs replied with goals from Zac and then Ol. Twin City clawed one back and then Ol scored to put the team 3-2 up at halftime. It was very close during the second half and there were quite a few chances for both sides. With about six minutes of play left the opposition managed to equalise. Not to be outdone Spurs lifted and some concentrated play saw Jim Brodie leap into the air and head the ball straight into the net from a free kick. Less than a minute later the full-time whistle blew. Thanks to the 16s players who helped out – Denzel and emergency keeper Scott. Thanks to Mitch for running the lines – good warm-up for the seniors match!

Over 35s v Twin City lost 0 – 6
Wow! If we thought last week was tough we certainly got a rude shock today.
It was harsh out there in the heat against another physical side as we started solidly & kept pace with them for a while.
They relied greatly on through balls for their attack & it paid dividends for them.
Our back line, try as we did, were not able to fully prevent their strong powerful fast forwards from scoring 3 in each half. Having said that we had some opportunities ourselves but failed to convert our chances. We did however control & distribute the ball to feet the majority of the time which was pleasing to see. Let’s regroup for next week lads!

Reserve Women v Twin City lost 0 – 3
What a great start to the season, even though we lost there were a number of positives to take from the game. It was also the first time playing together as a team and we welcomed some new faces to the team/club and also some returning players.
We started off well and throughout the game we managed to display some support play, the one – twos and put some pressure on their defence group! The heat on the day probably broke us a little, but I’m sure in weeks to come that sun will disappear and we will be complaining on how cold and wet it is!
Our defence was very solid and lead by Snowy, that new off-side rule was making it a little tricky for the defence line to adapt to but with some practise I’m sure we will work it out. Simone had an awesome game in goals and we are very happy to see you back at the club.
Our forwards Em, Asha and Alesha didn’t give up and had a number of chances but the Twin City keeper was hard to get around. We need to work on some depth in the middle of the park but the players that tried out this position they gave it a go and worked hard!! Which is promising for the team. Skippy, Shelby & Sara played well on the wings.
Nat had a solid game in midfield and defence which she matched up very well against a player that was very dangerous up front, and managed to reduce the number of shots on. Well done Nat you were best on ground for Round 1!
Keep up the great work girls and we look forward to playing Diamonds mid -week, then a rest weekend before we play St Pats.
Remember be hungry for the ball and get in front of the player, never wait for the ball to come to you!!

Reserve Men v Twin City lost 1 – 7
Despite the heavy loss by the Ressies there were some positives from their game. Certainly the team showed much improvement in the second half. Ashley and Dilip played well in their first games for the club and Chondra scored a good goal. Irish and Arjun also played well.

Senior Men v Twin City lost 1 – 4
Disappointing result for the seniors but it is encouraging to see a much better performance than last week. The crossbar was our opponents friend as we hit it a number of times. Great goal by Mitch Anderson after good lead work by Ryan Weston. Ben Gardiner and Sam Thorman had very strong games with Paul Kinning and Harry Quealy also having good games. If we can take our chances next week we should be able to collect some points.
